Rainbow Refugee Committee
The RAINBOW REFUGEE COMMITTEE is a participatory and collaborative committee formed by, for and with people from the LGBTQIA+ community who have experienced forced migration.
The aim of the committee is to :
- Support, inspire, coordinate, and above all unify the action and strategic thinking of people in IPR (International Protection Request) and refugees from the LGBTQIA+ community living on Belgian territory;
- To promote the socio-economic integration of IPR applicants and refugees from the LGBTQIA+ community on Belgian territory by acting as a mediator with the authorities at all administrative levels of the state apparatus (municipal, regional, community, federal, European and international);
- To support and advise, through a mainly advisory role, governmental authorities and civil society actors in the formulation and implementation of correct integration policies for IPR persons and refugees from the LGBTQIA+ community in Belgium;
- To prepare and support LGBTQIA+ IPR persons in their refugee status recognition procedure;
- To accompany LGBTQIA+ refugees in their journey towards Belgian citizenship;
The activities of the committee are :
- The setting up of workshops and discussion groups ;
- Accompaniment and support in the asylum procedure ;
- Job coaching workshops ;
- Jndividual interviews ;
- Setting up LGBTQIA+ community protection actions in the countries of origin of RAINBOW REFUGEE COMMITTEE members ;
- Organization of conferences, permanency at the RainbowHouse bar, meetings with the “general” public, etc…..
